Arabic Grammar & Tarkeeb



This course covers all major rules of Arabic Grammar with supplementary notes. The course focuses application of the rules of Nahw [Arabic Grammar] on short statements of the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. The Course allows students to understand the concept of Tarkeeb [I'raab] where sentences are broken down grammatically. The course is suited for someone who has studied the basic rules of Arabic Grammar and want to take their studies to another level.

Here is the content structure of the course

Lesson 1

Words are of 3 types:
1. Ism اسم
2. Fi’l فعل
3. Harf حرف

Sentences are of two types:
1. Fi’l based sentence جملة فعلية
2. Ism based sentences جملة اسمية

Ism are divided into several categories:
• Mari’fa [definite] / Nakira [indefinite]
• x1 [Mufrad] / x2 [Tathniya] / x3 [Jama’]
• Muzhakkar [Masc.] / Muannath [Feminine]
• Mu’rab [Changeable vowels] / Mabni [Non-Changeable vowels]
• Marfoo’ / Mansoob / Majroor
• Aamila [Effective] / Gayr Aamila [Non-Effective]

Harf are divided into:
• Aamila [Effective] / Gayr Aamila [Non-Effective]

Types of Nouns
Mabni

o Preceded by a verb or something similar
o Waw which means with before it


Lesson 10

Laa Negating Genus [لا نفي الجنس]
• Appears before a Mubtada [Ism] and Khabr
• It gives the Ism Single Fatha [Mansoob]
• It gives the Khabr Raf’
• Has 3 conditions
• Doesn’t apply if any condition is missing
e.g. لا رجلَ موجودٌ


Shart [شرط]
• Some are Ism and others are Harf
• Some give Jazm and others don’t
• All are Mabni except أيّ
• Applies to two sentences
• The first sentence is known as Shart and other is Jazaa
e.g. مَنْ يَسْمَعْ يَفْهَمْ


Lesson 11

Tameez [تَمْيِيْز]
• Components: Tameez , Mumayyaz [مُمَيَّز]
• The default is:
o Nakira
o Delayed
o Mansoob

• 2 types:
o Zhat [ذات]
o Nisbah [نسبة]
Muhawwal [مُحَوَّل]
Ghayr Muhawwal [غَيْر مُحَوَّل]


Nidaa [نِدَاء]
• Different components : Letters of Nidaa, Munada, Maqsood.

• Emphasises the word before it
• Components : Takeed, Muakkad
• 2 types:

• Takeed takes same vowel as Muakkad


Atf Bayan [عطف البيان]
Jamid word more common than another word that clarifies or specifies it.
Components: Taabi', Matboo'
It must conform in same things as Sifa/Na't
Usually appears as an Ism after the following:
o Kunya
o Laqab
o Isharah
o Ayyu [أيّ]
